The ladies played for the America Cup on Tuesday and the course was full of colourful red, white & blue attire as the ladies battled the scorching temperatures. Paula Smith had an excellent score of 89-22=67 and won the trophy. Sue Martin was a close second with 103-35=68 and Liz Strutt was in third place with 89-20=69.
The July Mid-Week Medal was played on Thursday. Kyle Doherty was the winner with a score of 84-17=67. In second place was Ian Johnson 78-10=68 and third Fiona Cope 91-21=70.
Gary Dymond held his Club Captain’s Day on Saturday. The day was well attended and there was some good golf played on a hot & breezy day. Overall winner was James Alefounder. Anna Cowen won the ladies prize and Hugo Campbell won the junior prize. The guest winner was Daryl Heffer.
The results for the Mens & Ladies Ferens Salver on Sunday were very close. The winners were Michelle Day & Steve Rockell with 44 points on countback from Mick Rugg & Maxine Trill. Third place went to the Lady Captain Emma Cole & her husband Jules with 43 points.
Also on Sunday the Clacton Juniors Youth Shield Handicap Team A played their quarter final match against Burnham on Crouch at The Notleys. Despite a tremendous effort from all the players they were narrowly defeated 3-2 in a closely contested match.
The Seniors played two interclub matches this week. The first was a great result away against Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club winning 6 ½ - 1 ½. Unfortunately they lost their match at home against Colchester a few days later. A sterling effort was made by a very good team but they were defeated 5 ½ - 2 ½. The winner of the Seniors Weekly Challenge was Derek Montague with 40 points playing off 25. John Wood was second on countback, with 39 points playing off 5 , beating Martin Dixon who was third with 39 points playing off 21.
