The ladies played their Easter Egg Competition on Tuesday 7th with Kath Sinnott winning the Stableford competition with 37 points. Lady Captain Emma Cole was second with 35 points and Brenda Lord third with 33 points. The proceeds of this competition are sent to Cancer Research UK. Also on Tuesday the Seniors played a friendly match against the Juniors. 12 Juniors took on 12 Seniors on a gloriously sunny day and both teams enjoyed a friendly but competitive match. Two teams, different generations getting to know each other and sharing the spirit of the game. The final result was an 8-4 victory for the Seniors Team and proved an invaluable experience for the Juniors who learnt from their opponents skill and course management.
The men’s competition on Saturday was the Canny Ryall Cup. The winner was Peter Robinson with a great score of 40 points. Second was Paul Barnard with 37 points on countback from Kevin Taylor who was third.
The Juniors Youth Shield had another league match this week, with both teams playing away against The Essex. Team A (Cooper Hayes, Charlie Heffer, Jay White, Max Heffer & Charlie Beasley) delivered an outstanding victory over their opponents with a great score of 4-1. Team B ( Louie Brewer, George Feighery, Jonnie Down, Vince Chung & Hugo Campbell) all played very close matches, battling right down to the final putt and narrowly lost 2-3.
The Men’s Thornton Cup team played their first match of the season on Sunday at home against The Essex. The cold start and strong winds helped the pairs achieve a great morning result of 5-0. Team Captain Steve Parkes mixed up his team players in the afternoon for them to play yet more outstanding golf, the final score being a great result of 13.5 – 1.5. The team play Abridge in the next round and have another home draw.
The Norman Plum team also played their first match on Sunday, with games being played both home & away, against Maldon. More great golf in windy conditions with the home score being a draw 1.5 – 1.5. The away players score however was 2-1, making a victory for Clacton overall 3.5-2.5.
The Clacton Men’s Seniors played against the Frinton Links Seniors at Clacton on Monday and won very convincingly with a score of 7.5 – 0.5. The course and the weather was good and it was a very enjoyable day for all. Those seniors not playing in the match played a Weekly Challenge competition with Derek Montague winning with 42 points playing off 25. In second place was Michael Hurley with 40 points playing off 22 and third was John Dellow with 38 points playing off 28.
